A Song of Elements As you and them stand there, in the garden, its night, you think to your self "what is one death to do". You now raise the knife high in the air and almost as if you are trying to slice through concrete you bring the blade down to them. When the blade connects with them they dissolve, like Alka-Seltzer in water. You moan almost as if in pain. You scream "all found in heaven is hell". The knife still in the ground, you pick it up. They appear. "Your back" you say sorrowfully. "Yeah" they reply half there. "I thought you said you wouldn't come back" you sneer. "Listen, I came back because I did end of story" they hiss. "You

Hi Will!
About "not always good at it" : Great! Me neither.

Ira Glass on public radio has a great comment about that: it's 'cause your taste in art is further along than your skill. And the only way to get caught up is to do it, do it, do it. And grab ahold of example you like and mess around with techniques and make about fifty gazillion mistakes.

Another artist I like, Ursula Vernon, says all work an artist does -- whether good, bad, indifferent, independent, or never to be seen again -- is mulch for the next bit, or the one after that, or ...  Love the idea of art as compost.

Cheers to getting your stuff out, to pushing yourself, to winging it!

Kir
thanks that was very inspiring i will certainly keep at it. I have started taking photos more often than drawing and have found that very enjoyable. I looked at Ursula Vernon and i love her work. Does she do the art for any comics or books? If not then i think she should because her art looks a little cartoonish sometimes. I have just found the sheet music for the song form the Lord Of The Rings called In Dreams. It is known to most people as the shire's theme song and is played at the parting of the fellowship. Any way i wish you luck in you art as it is amazing and definitely deserves to be known
 Thanks!

Ursula Vernon did a web comic (now in print) called "Digger". Digger is a wombat. There is myth, a little mayhem, and a lot of ink. Six volumes I think.

I think her website is www.ursulavernon.com

She did some of the art for Magic: The gathering cards and lots and lots of art that she prints and sells. I found her while browsing on the Elfwood site oh -- years ago! -- She's also written several books besides the Dragonbreath series ... Nurk, Black Dogs, and she's working on Bread Wizard.  She's given the best advice I've come across -- the bit about mulch, and also "Deadlines are gods. Meet them." (This one gives me trouble. I think it might be my phrasing, but that was the takeaway message...)
OH i've seen her name on some magic the gathering cards. Do you know what they are? and that is very good advise i myself have trouble with deadlines to
